Flesh trade agents thrive

Cyberabad cops have failed to arrest two city-based recruiting agents who sent a woman from Qutbullapur to the Gulf, resulting in a situation in which she was forced into sex trade.

Even three months after the FIR was lodged, there is no progress in the case. A jurisdiction problem was raised between the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police forces, adding to the delay in arresting the accused, it is learnt.

The Cyberabad police says it transferred the case to Hyderabad as the offence took place in Bowenpally. However, the police in Hyderabad says it is not aware of any such transfer.

The 28-year-old woman, a resident of Suraram in Qutbullapur, had been forced into prostitution before she managed to return to Hyderabad with the help of the Saudi police and the Indian associations there.

On arrival, she lodged a complaint with the Dundigal police on July 30 last. However, the two agents, Feroz and Shabhana, named in the FIR, are yet to be traced.

She also stated that several women from AP were being sexually exploited in the Gulf, where they went for work as domestic help.

However, neither the NRI cell of the state government nor the police could investigate the matter yet.
The victim said, “I was working in the hospital at Ameerpet as a patient-helper with a salary of Rs 5,000. My husband had deserted me.I have three children. The agents approached me and said I can earn more in Saudi Arabia. I was promised a salary of Rs 20,000 by Feroz.”

“They gave me a ticket for Dubai, and from there to Saudi. I was given two passports with visas. Once I arrived in Saudi, an Arab national met me, took me with him, and sold me to someone.

“They beat me up when I refused to do the dirty work. They used chemicals to torture me and they inflicted injuries on my body. I escaped from the house, and returned here.”

She added, “I have seen many from Hyderabad, Nepal, and coastal Andhra districts facing a similar situation there.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
