Four fake cops held; gold seized
A four-member gang who robbed people by pretending to be policemen were arrested on Saturday. They were arrested when they were moving under suspicious circumstances at Lothkunta on Friday.
Police recovered 56 tolas of gold and two vehicles from them. The accused, Syed Nadir, 40, Syed Hashim, 36, Syed Aslam, 42, and Ali Raza Syed, were caught during a routine vehicle check, police said.
They used to approach people wearing gold ornaments by pretending to be police officers and do a body checking saying that was in connection with a probe on murder case,” said Bolarum police inspector K. Sreenivasalu. “While they do the body check up, they ask the people to put all the ornaments in a bag, and in-between they quickly flee from the area on their bikes,” he added.
In the second method, they commit theft in jewellery shops by diverting the attention of the shop keepers, the police inspector said. Police has slapped as many as eight cases, in different police stations in the city, on the accused for theft and cheating.
