Genelia gets HC notice in cheating case
The AP High Court on Wednesday issued notices to film actor Genelia D’Souza in a criminal petition, challenging an order of the lower court, deleting her name from an array of accused in a complaint against a real estate firm of which she is a brand ambassador.
Chatta Tirupataiah, a resident of Guntur, had approached the High Court, challenging the lower court's decision. Mr Tirupataiah said that he had booked two duplex houses in a venture floated by Anjaniputra Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. Even after paying Rs 48 lakh, the firm did not respond in terms of the sale agreement entered. He filed a private complaint before the lower court against the managing director and directors of the firm, including the brand ambassador. He told the court that the lower court deleted Genelia’s name and directed the Saifabad police to register a case against the MD and directors of the firm.
K. N. Jwala, senior counsel, arguing before Justice K. C. Bhanu, contended that the actor was represented as brand ambassador besides being a director of the firm and had exhorted people to come and purchase the plots through the advertisements.
He argued that the lower court did not have the jurisdiction to restrict investigation only to the MD and other directors when the complaint was made against her too. The judge issued notices to the respondents, including the Genelia, directing them to file their replies on the plea and adjourned the case to next week.
