GHMC sitting on over 136 giant hoardings
It took just two days for the police to pull down the huge outdoor unipole advertisement hoardings put up by a private agency in properties owned by the Home department in the city. Though the exercise of dismantling the unipole hoardings caused traffic jams, the cops went ahead and removed the hoardings. However, the GHMC has a different attitude altogether.
Despite giving an assurance to the AP High Court around six months ago that the GHMC will remove all advertisement hoardings and unipoles erected in graveyards, smashana vatikas, burial and cremation grounds, shrines, places of religious worship and heritage structures, the hoardings continue to stand tall in all these places even today.
RTC activist Khairul Hasan said 136 huge hoardings and seven unipole hoardings are located on the premises of places of worship, smashana vatikas and heritage buildings and sites. “This was revealed by a RTI query. The hoardings in Muslim grave yards should be removed immediately,” he said.
