Goon killed by associate

Notorious criminal Khaja Nayeemuddin alias Maruti Nayeem, accused in over 100 burglaries in different parts of the city, was murdered in the wee hours of Friday, allegedly by his associate at Yakatpura.

The Reinbazar police received an alert of an assault at Super Bazar, Yakatpura, from the control room at 4.45 am. When the police team reached the spot, they found the body of Maruti Nayeem in a pool of blood near the Islamia College. He was attacked by a sharp knife while his head was badly smashed.

ACP M. Kistaiah said that the police has identified the offender, Moham-med Tariq Ali, alias Babu, one of Nayeem’s associates.

“We suspect that a dispute over distribution of stolen goods is the reason for the murder. Babu attacked Nayeem in the wee hours of Friday. We will arrest Babu shortly,” said Mr Kistaiah.

Nayeem was released last month after having been in jail since last January on account of chain-snatching. More than 130 cases have been registered against Nayeem.
