Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan said that he would visit all parts of the state to monitor the implementation of development programmes. In an informal chat with mediapersons on the Raj Bhavan lawns after swearing in for a second term, the Governor said he would start his visits after the bypolls were over. Asked about the stability of the government, he said: “It is stable and working as of now.”

The Governor’s comments are significant in view of the likely changes in the political scenario after the bypolls. He also made light of the allegations about his confidential reports to the Centre against division of the state, by asking the media to share the reports purported to have been sent by him to the Centre.

“You keep writing that I have sent a 90-page report and sometimes the number is around 40-50 pages. I will be glad if I am given copies of these so-called reports,” he added. The Governor was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of the AP High Court Madan B. Lokur at a simple function organised at the Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Legislative Council chairman A. Chakrapani, Speaker N. Manohar, Cabinet ministers, HC judges, Army and Navy officials and bureaucrats were present.

The Governor and his wife Vimala Narasimhan greeted the guests. The protocol department made special seating arrangements for the Governor’s family members and his close friends as per instructions of Narasimhan. The VIP enclosure was put behind the special enclosure. The Governor said development should not be limited to Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
