Greater commissionerate to police city
A Chief Police Commissionerate of Greater Hyderabad comprising four police commissionerates will be set up within a month. Director general of police V. Dinesh Reddy said on Tuesday that the present Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates would be merged to form the four new commissionarates of Hyderabad, Hyderabad South, Secunderabad and Cyberabad.
Each commissionerate will be headed by an inspector general of police-ranked official with an Additional DG-ranked official over them as chief commissioner of police. All of them will have magisterial and other powers under the Hyderabad City Police Act. The decision was taken in the recent staff officers’ meeting in the interest of the people to make policing better.
A brainstorming session was also held with retired IPS official Dr C. Anjaneya Reddy on Tuesday regarding the matter. Mr Dinesh Reddy said, “Criminals do not have boundaries. When a Hyderabad police commissioner externs a criminal he goes and takes shelter in areas like Kukatpally in Cyberabad. Thus the purpose is watered down. The merger is to bring uniformity in policing.”
The commissioners of police of the four commissionerates will act independently like the present commissioners but will report to the CCP. “During the reorganisation, the rural police stations will be taken out and merged with Ranga Reddy. The police commissionerate of Greater Hyderabad will have the urban areas. Rural parts like Ibrahimpatnam and Moinabad, which are presently under the Cyberabad police commissionarate, will go to Ranga Reddy.
The Secunderabad police commissionerate will be in the North Zone DCP’s office after upgradation and the Cyberabad commissionarate will be at Gachibowli.
