Harassment pushes woman to end life

A woman attempted to commit suicide along with her kids by jumping into a lake in Kollapedaka of Maheshwaram, on Saturday. Villagers who saw the suicide bid saved one of the children.

S-I K. Venkat Reddy said that A. Neelima, 26, was harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry. The harassment increased when she gave birth to two daughters — Pallavi, 5, and Nikita, 3.

While she hoped that her in-laws would cool down after she gave birth to a son two years ago, the harassment continued.

On Saturday, Neelima jumped into the Kollape-daka lake.

Sarpanch Narasinha Rao called the police and a case was filed by the victim’s mother M. Rupali. Neelima’s husband Parashuram and his parents are absconding. A case under IPC sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 498A (dowry) have been filed.
