Hari revolt hits Telugu Desam

Telugu Desam Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Harikrishna blamed leaders for pushing the party into dire straits at the party’s 31st anniversary.

He said that Junior NTR would play a role in TD’s affairs at an appropriate time. The TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, was quick to disapprove brother-in-law Harikrishna’s comment saying that if he had any grouse he could discuss it with him anytime like other party leaders and workers and avoid airing such views in public.

“I have no hang-ups in speaking to cadres or any leader. If someone happens to be a family member, I will have lunch and chat with them. I am always accessible to everyone in the party,” Mr Naidu remarked. The TD chief added that the YSR Congress will go the Praja Rajyam way. He led the party's 31st foundation day celebrations on Thursday.

Mr Harikrishna, who is in New Delhi to attend Parliament session, said the Telugu Desam was NTR’s Manasika putri and the party survived thanks to its cadre and people, especially women.

“The party is passing through a crisis. The leaders are responsible for the present state of affairs. We need to save the party and bring back its glory. The Nandamuri family is greatly indebted to the cadre and people who shed blood for the party. I am sure they will continue to stand by us,” he remarked.
Accusing the leaders of forgetting the cadres once in power, he said the cadre should remember the words of NTR to catch hold of the leaders by their collars if they do not do their duties.

“Women are behind the success of the TD. Good days are ahead for the Nandamuri clan,” he remarked.

Mr Harikrishna also alleged that some party leaders were lobbying with the Congress and that was unacceptable.

Asked if he was upset over the alleged sale of Rajya Sabha tickets, he parried the question saying that the bigger objective was to save the party from collapse. On Telangana, he said the party did justice to all the three regions but blamed the Congress for promising Telangana and going back on it.
“Personally, I am for Samaikhya Andhra. The Congress should accept responsibility for the present mess and not the Telugu Desam,” he said.
