Harish breaks mike as MLAs fight over T
In an unexpected move, floor leaders of most parties in the Assembly on Tuesday ended up giving their opinion on introducing a resolution recommending the formation of Telangana state. The Telugu Desam did not need to take a stand as the Speaker adjourned the House amid chaos.
The move came within a day of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy rejecting outright the demand for introducing a resolution. The exercise, however, remained inconclusive as the House plunged into chaos with TRS legislator T. Harish Rao uprooting the mike and independent MLA N. Janardhan Reddy and ministers D. Nagender and M. Mukesh Goud engaging in a verbal duel.
On Tuesday, as soon as the House convened, TRS and BJP members rushed to the podium and demanded the Telangana resolution. To break the deadlock, the Speaker initially allowed TRS floor leader E. Rajender to appeal to other parties to support the resolution. Other floor leaders later got a chance to express their views.
The Speaker reminded the members repeatedly that what he sought was the opinion of parties on ending the impasse but the BJP, Left and Mr Janardhan Reddy went ahead and aired their views on the resolution. The YSR Congress sought to play it safe with Y.S. Vijayalakshmi leaving it to the Business Advisory Committee to decide on whether or not to take up the resolution. The Telugu Desam was spared of the embarrassing situation of expressing its view on a T-resolution as the House was adjourned before the party’s turn came.
