HC cancels Acharya’s bail
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday cancelled the bail granted by the special CBI court to senior IAS officer B.P. Acharya in the Emaar scam case. He is the prime accused in the case. The court also dismissed the bail plea of Koneru Rajendra Prasad, another accused in the case.
While holding that the special court order as “perverse”, Justice K.C. Bhanu directed that the suspended officials surrender before the special court and that if they did not do so, the CBI was at liberty to arrest them and send them to judicial custody. The special CBI court had granted bail to Mr Acharya on March 16 on the grounds that the CBI had failed to secure sanction from the Government of India to prosecute him. He was released from Chanchalguda prison by furnishing sureties. Mr Acharya had been arrested on January 30.
