HC cancels bail given to Gali
The AP High Court on Wednesday cancelled the bail granted to mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy in the Obulapuram Mining Company illegal mining case. While allowing the CBI plea, Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu pointed out that the special judge granted bail to the accu-sed on extraneous considerations.
Senior counsel Ashok Bhan, arguing for the CBI, sought cancellation of the bail order granted by the lower court on the grounds that, prima facie, the High Court took the issue (cash-for-bail scam) seriously and ordered suspension of the CBI judge in public interest. He said that a case was registered by the ACB against special judge Pattabhirama Rao and others and an inquiry was progress. “Huge cash changed hands behind granting of bail to the accused. Mr Pattabhirama Rao has become a rotten egg in the judiciary system,” Mr Bhan said.
Taking serious exception to this, Justice Govindarajulu said that there was no need to blame the entire judiciary as the case pertained to an individual. In fact, black sheep were present in each and every sector, he said. While canceling the bail, the judge granted liberty to the accused to approach the special court and directed the special court to dispose of any such ap-plication without being influenced by the ‘cash-for-bail’ scam.
