HC defreezes Jagan cos’ bank accounts
Justice B. Chandra Kumar of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday gave a breather to Jagati Publications, Indira Television and Janani Infra, all owned by YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, by permitting them to operate their current accounts in various banks.
Dealing with writ petitions by Jagati, Janani and Indira Television challenging the action of the CBI in freezing their bank accounts, the judge granted them conditional relief to operate their accounts. The judge ruled that while the freezing of fixed deposits will continue, the current accounts can be operated by the petitioners only by furnishing bank guarantees of equal amounts. The judge directed that all the transactions, including paying of salaries to employees of Sakshi Telugu daily and Sakshi Television channel, should be made through cheques.
The judge asked the petitioners to submit a report to the CBI court on the 10th of every month, detailing all their financial transactions of each month. The court made it clear that the petitioners should not alienate, transfer or sell any of the property in question. Elsewhere, on Wednesday, a division bench of Justice B. Chandra Kumar and Justice K.G. Shankar, adjourned to next week the hearing on an appeal by the state government questioning the order of a single judge suspending a GO banning advertisements to the Sakshi group.
