HC sets limits on Srisailam water

A Division Bench, comprising acting Chief Justice P. C. Ghose and Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar of the High Court, on Wednesday directed the state government not to release water from the Srisailam reservoir to the Nagarjunsagar dam if the water level at the reservoir was below 854 feet. The Bench was dealing with a plea by former Planning Commission member Vidyasagar Rao and TRS MLA Jupalli Krishna Rao, seeking a direction to stop the rel-ease of waters from the Srisailam project below the Minimum Draw Down Level of 834 feet in contravention of GOs issued in 1996 and 2004.

While directing the government to maintain the water level at 854 feet at the reservoir, the Bench told the authorities to file a detailed counter by explaining the water levels at the dam at different points of time and asked the petitioners to file their reply after filing the counter affidavit by the authorities. The bench said that it would take a final hearing on the plea on August 5.

DGP case: Bench reserves orders
A Division Bench, comprising Justice Goda Raghuram and Justice M. S. Ramachandra Rao of the AP High Court, on Wednesday reserved its orders on two writ petitions, challenging the order of the Central Administrative Tribunal in setting aside the appointment of V. Dinesh Reddy as the head of the state's police force. After hearing the arguments of counsels appearing for Dinesh Reddy and P. Gautam Kumar, petitioner before the CAT, and also the A-G on behalf of the state government, the Bench said that its verdict would come soon.

The CAT set aside the appointment of Dinesh Reddy as DGP of the state on June 19, pointing out that the state government had to follow the IPS Cadre Rules and also the directives of the Supreme Court in the Prakash Singh case in appointing the head of the state's police force.
