HC suspends Gali’s bail
Justice B. Chandra Kumar, vacation judge of the AP High Court, on Wednesday suspended the bail granted to mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy by the Special CBI Court in the illegal mining case.
The special court had granted bail to Mr Janardhan Reddy on May 11. Aggrieved by the decision, the CBI had filed a petition before the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail. The CBI pointed out that the illegal mining case was still under investigation and the release of the prime accused in the case will hamper the probe. Mr Janardhan Reddy is presently housed in a jail in Bellary in another case of illegal mining registered against him in Karnataka.
Acharya’s bail plea rejected
Justice B. Chandra Kumar of the AP High Court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to B.P. Acharya, suspended IAS officer and prime accused in Emaar land scam. While dismissing the bail plea, the judge pointed out that the CBI has brought to the notice of the court about a property worth Rs 10 crore was transferred in the name of Acharya's son and has to be investigated. The vacation judge pointed out that the CBI wanted to find out the end beneficiaries in Emaar scam, hence he was not inclined to grant bail at this juncture.
Orders on poll symbol reserved
A Division Bench comprising Justice B. Seshasayana Reddy and Justice K.G. Shankar on Wednesday reserved orders on a plea by the YSR Congress questioning the action of the Election Commission in refusing to grant “ceiling fan” symbol for the Tirupati constituency in the forthcoming byelection.
