House expresses concern on suicides
Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Wednesday appealed to the youth not to commit suicides. Making a statement in the Assembly on behalf of all the members, Mr Manohar said that the spate of suicides in the recent past has caused anguish not only to the fa-milies of the victims, but to the entire state as well.
“I, on behalf of the House, appeal to the youth not to sacrifice their bright future on which the country’s future depends,” he said. Though he did not directly refer to Telang-ana, the Speaker said any issue could be resolved through dialogue only in the democratic system. Before the appeal, the Speaker applied guillotine on passing the demands of various departments amidst pandemonium.
The TRS and TD members from the Telangana region stalled the proceedings demanding that the Assembly adopt a resolution recommending the formation of Telangana state. Marshals were pressed into service to prevent the members from occupying the podium. Excise minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana moved the AP Excise and A P (Regulation of Trade in Indian Made Foreign Liquor, Foreign Liquor) Acts (Amendments) Bill 2012 and the Speaker declared that the Bill was passed by voice vote.
