Eamcet results announced on Friday have dealt a death blow to engineering colleges, where over 1 lakh seats may go vacant this year.

Boys dominated the res-ults, taking the top eight spots in both the enginee-ring and medical streams. Both boys who topped the engineering and medical streams are from the city.

Chinta Nitish Chandra of Madhapur came first in the engineering stream, scoring 149 marks out of 156. Dilsukhnagar’s Vijay Ketan Reddy topped the medical stream with 155 out of 159 marks. Though total marks for Eamcet is 160, four questions in engineering and one question in medical were deleted due to ‘errors’.

Only 2,07,473 students qualified for the eng-ineering stream, where as many as 3,21,000 BE and B.Tech seats are on offer in 671 colleges. A total of 2,83,477 candidates had applied for the exam.

On top of this, another 13,844 students who qualified in Eamcet engineering have failed in the Intermediate exams and become ineligible for BE/B.Tech. Thus, there are only 1,93,629 students available for 3,21,000 se-ats.

Another 15,000 seats are expected to be added by AICTE before the Ea-mcet counselling begins in the third week of July.

Samyuktha (15th). In the medical stream, G.M.C.V. Bharadwaj secured the state eighth rank, followed by B. Sanath Kumar (14th) .
