IAS Acharya surrenders before CBI court
Senior IAS officer, B.P. Acharya, who was out on bail for two weeks, is back in the Chanchalaguda Central Prison.
The Emaar accused surrendered before the special court for CBI cases on Thursday after the AP High Court cancelled his bail and asked him to surrender before the trial court.
He surrendered after receiving the orders from the court. Accompanied by his counsel V. Surender Rao, he turned up at the CBI court at 4 pm. The CBI judge, B. Naga Maruthi Sharma, remanded him to judicial custody till March 30.
It may be noted that the CBI court released him on bail on March 16 as the CBI couldn’t obtain a sanction order for prosecuting the IAS officer in the absence of which, the court can’t take cognisance of the offences he was charged with. While sending him to judicial custody, the judge directed that he should be treated as a special class prisoner in the jail as he was being treated as a special class prisoner.
Meanwhile, several Em-aar accused, including Em-aar Properties PJSC chairman, Mohammed Ali Alabbar, former Emaar MGF MD Shravan Gupta, former Emaar MGF CEO Shrikant Joshi, retired IAS officer K.V. Rao and Mad hu Koneru were summoned and are expected to appear before the court on Friday.
