IIT-H student gets Rs 35L pay package

As many as 115 students from the first B.Tech batch and second PG (Masters) batch of the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad have found jobs during the ongoing maiden placement season so far.

The average salary of the placed students has been pegged at Rs 7 lakh per annum. A total of 156 students were registered for placements at IIT-H, which began in the last week of December 2011 and will continue till April-end. The highest salary of Rs 35 lakh per annum was bagged by Arun Chaitanya, a B.Tech (CSE) student. He was recruited by Works Applications, an ERP software firm based in Tokyo.

This is the highest salary offered to a student from the eight new IITs that were established in 2008 along with IIT-H. Fifty companies participated in the placement process, with students of Computer Science and Engineering bagging the most coveted jobs. Other globally reputed recruiters of CSE students include Amazon, Microsoft IDC, Deloitte and PayPal.

Notable recruiters of Electrical Engineering students were Nvidia, Xilinx and HP. Mechanical Engineering students were mainly recruited by Bharat Petroleum, Mahindra Satyam and 3DPLM. Other firms like Flipkart, mFino and FuturesFirst also hired students. Dr G.V.V. Sharma, faculty-in-charge, placements, IIT-H, said, “With many students looking to apply for PSUs off-campus, the proportion of outgoing students with a job in hand will increase further by the month-end. Along with the graduating students, third-year B.Tech students also bagged summer internships at prestigious firms.
