‘India faces internal security challenges’
Speaking at the combined passing-out parade of 453 trainees, including assistant commandants and sub-inspectors of the National Industrial Security Academy here, Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde said the country faces many internal security challenges, especially in areas that are underdeveloped.
In these areas, the Central Industrial Security Force plays a pivotal role in providing security and protection to critical sectors and infrastructure, he said.
Mr Shinde said the Government of India expects the CISF to be in the forefront in thwarting any attempts by terror groups and naxalites using advanced technologies for more gruesome and lethal attacks.
The home minister awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (02), President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service (01), Police Medal for Meritorious Service (26) and Fire Service Medal (02) to CISF officers/personnel, who were honoured on Republic Day 2012.
Shinde evades questions on Telangana
Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde steered clear of media during his visit to AP, thus evading questions on the burning issue of Telangana.
The passing out parade was the first official function attended by Mr Shinde after assuming charge of Union home ministry. Clearly, he doesn’t want to rock the boat so soon after assuming office.
