‘Ismail died of mental agony’
Saleem, cousin of Md Ismail Hussain, who died on Thursday after he was allegedly beaten and punished by his class teacher, said that the teacher had beaten him and made him do 50 sit-ups. Saleem and other family members felt that it was the humiliation of being punished in front of all the students, rather than the punishment itself, that had contributed to his death. “Boys at that age are extremely sensitive. Even the doctors agree that he died of mental agony,” said the boy’s father, Md Siddiq Hussain.
Madannapet inspector K.N. Suryaprakash said that on September 4, Ismail had returned home complaining of body pain; two days later he developed high fever and on September 10 he was admitted to Life Line hospital and was shifted to three other hospitals subsequently. He, however, died on Thursday and his body was transferred to the Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem. Ismail has two sisters and four brothers, who also study in the same school. The family, meanwhile, is determined to get justice for Ismail. “We have already lost a child; we want to protect the others now,” is all that they have to say.
