Jagan to be questioned as suspect: ED
Enforcement Directorate submitted to the special court for CBI cases that they have sought permission to record the statement of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the erstwhile chairman and director of Jagathi Publications, only as a suspect and not as an accused. However, Jagan’s counsel argued that ED’s petition was not maintainable as Jagan Mohan Reddy resigned as director on February 1, 2011, and was no longer director of Jagathi Publications
The court was hearing petition filed by Enforcement Directorate seeking permission to record Jagan's statement as the chairman and director of Jagathi Publications. “Jagathi Publications is being represented by Mr C.P.N. Karthik after getting necessary permissions from the court,” said Jagan’s counsel. ED informed the court that “a schedule offence has been committed and there is a need to ascertain facts in the case in which an Enforcement case information report (ECIR) has also been issued”. Counsel for enforcement directorate argued that ED had the powers to summon anyone.
“We have issued summons to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in Chanchalguda prison under section 50(2) of PMLA and under directions of the CBI court. This petition is not custody petition. We have not termed him as accused. There is a need for facts to be revealed as there is a conspiracy involved,” said counsel for ED.
