Jagan is a tough nut to crack: CBI tells court
While hearing the arguments of CBI counsel Ashok Bhan in the Jagan illegal investments case, Justice B. Chandra Kumar asked, “What can you ach-ieve in two days that you could not achieve in the last five days of custody?”
CBI counsel replied that they had some material to prove that the conspiracy has been hatched by Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and his auditor V. Vijaya Sai Reddy to get investments from various companies by using YSR’s position as CM.
He said that Mr Reddy was a very hard nut to crack and also very clever and gave irrelevant answ-ers to the queries of the CBI in the five days of interrogation. He argued that the conspiracy had spread to foreign countries and the CBI is pursuing the trail.
The judge pointedly asked the counsel to mention the special circumstances that warranted two more days of custody.
Mr Bhan said that there are certain documents to be shown to the accused and also the depositions of certain witnesses to be cross-checked with him.
C. Padmanabha Reddy, senior criminal lawyer arguing for Mr Reddy, took exception to the maintainability of the plea. He said the petition for the CBI custody had already been disposed of by the court by allowing the CBI five days’ custody and the present plea amounted to reviewing the earlier order.
