Jewel shop burgled in Krishnanagar
Jewellery weighing 25 kg silver and gold worth Rs 20 lakh were burgled from a shop in Krishnanagar on Thursday morning. The police said the burglars used gas cutters to break the shutters and enter Babulal Hiralal Chand Jain Jewellers, owned by Ramesh Kumar Jain, sometime between 2 am and 3 am. Quoting the complainant, Jubilee Hills sub-inspector M. Prabhakar Reddy said the burglars took away jewellery kept in the shelves, but were unable to break the locker, in which most gold ornaments were kept.
While locals blamed irregular police patrolling in the area for the robbery, the police said there was no private guard at the shop. The police have registered a case under IPC Sections 380 (theft) and 457 (housebreak). This is the third major robbery in the state this week. On Monday, burglars struck at a house in Tadbund Hanuman Temple in Bowenpally and decamped with 1 kg gold ornaments and `20 lakh in cash. The burglars had broken the front door’s lock while the family was away. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a gang stormed into a jewellery shop in the busy Muralinagar junction of Visakhapatnam and took away gold and silver jewellery weighing 1.5 kg each, keeping the owners at gunpoint.
