Kadapa engineer gets new patent
An engineer from Kadapa, Samatha Rayalu, has got patent from the Union Government for inventing a gaseous hydro turbine (GHT) for extraction of methane from deep sea waters. Claimed to be the first of its kind in the world, the devise can separate dissolved gases from water to generate hydro power.
“It took me eight years to develop the technology. The wheel-type GHT will enable separation of dissolved methane from deep sea waters up to a depth of 250 metres. Extracting methane will help get additional energy and fuel,” said the engineer who completed his B.Tech from Kurnool Pulla Reddy Engineering College.
He added that despite waiting for five years for help from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), he was not given any kind of assistance. “However, I got encouragement from professors of three engineering colleges and a US hydro turbine company. I plan to carry out the experiment of extracting methane in the east coast of the Bay of Bengal on March 1 next year,” said the inventor requesting for ethical support, blessings and cooperation from his countrymen.
