KCR silent ahead of crucial T-meet

A silent Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao is gearing up to intensify the agitation for a separate state if the Centre fails to take a decision after the vice-presidential election. Sources in TRS said that the party would have no option, but to re-launch the agitation if the Centre ignored the demand for Telangana by next month.

“We will start a brainstorming session from August 20. We expect a positive decision from the Centre. If the Centre tries to cheat the Telangana people we will re-launch the agitation,” TRS Deputy Floor leader T. Harish Rao told this newspaper. Mr Chandrasekhar Rao, who claimed that he had received signals from the Centre on a decision on T, has maintained silence for over a month now. Interestingly, Mr Chan-drasekhar Rao did not even react to YSR Congress leader Y.S. Vijayalakshmi’s controversial tour of Sircilla, or the violence during the tour when several TRS activists, especially wom-en, were badly beaten up.

Ruling out resignations by party MLAs hereafter, Mr Harish Rao said that the TRS would resort to direct action “if the Cent-re fails to take a decision”. Meanwhile, TRS politburo member B. Vinod Kumar scoffed at reports that the Union home ministry had opposed carving out a separate Telangana because it raised the water sharing problem and other issues. “It’s pure bakwas (rubbish). There is no such report. Union home minister P. Chidambaram had himself said that he is yet to receive the opinions of the Congress, Telugu Desam and YSR Congress on Telangana,” he said.

He added that the party would have no option but to re-launch the agitation if the Centre continued to dilly-dally on the statehood issue. Asked whether the party would support the TJAC’s decision to intensify the T-agitation from September with a 'Chalo Hyderabad' march on September 30, Mr Kumar said a decision on this would be taken soon. “If the Centre says ‘No Telangana’, we will be on the streets with ‘Jai Telangana’,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
