KCR, Vijayshanti disrupt Lok Sabha
The eight Congress MPs from Telanagana — Madhu Yashki Goud Yaskhi, G. Vivekanand, Ponnam Prabhakar, G. Sukender Reddy, M. Jagannath, K.R.G. Reddy, Balram Naik and S. Rajaiah — who boycotted Parliament on Monday, said they stayed away from the House to protest against what they called “suppression” of their voices.
Mr Goud said, “We decided yesterday not to attend Parliament in protest agai-nst suppressing our voices. Our demand is a genuine one and we protested in a democratic manner. But our voices have been suppressed.” On the question of attending Parliament from Wedn-esday, the MP said, “We will also see what the government has to tell us on the Telangana demand”.
However, the Lok Sabha was again stalled on Monday over the issue, with Telangana Rashtra Samiti members K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Vijayashanti squatting in the Well of the House. This forced Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj to ask the government about the steps it had taken in the matter.
The moment the House began its proceedings, Mr Rao and Ms Vijayashanti trooped into the Well with placards demanding the introduction of the Telangana statehood Bill. As the Question Hour continued with the TRS MPs squatting in the Well, Ms Swaraj said that she was disturbed over the sight of the members protesting to no effect. In response to her demand, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House to enable leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee to make a statement on the issue. Ms Swaraj said, “These people have been waiting for the past two-and-a-half years since the home minister’s announcement on formation of the state on December 9, 2009.”
