Kerala teen fights for life in AP
A 14-year-old boy from Kerala, who went missing from the Kerala Express train at Vijayawada railway station earlier this month, is battling for his life at a city hospital. Suspected to have fallen off the train on the way to Delhi with his family, the victim, Zulfeiker, had been lying “unattended to” at the government hospital in Khammam for days, his family members alleged.
According to his mother Jasmine, the family was on its way to Delhi from Kayamkulam, Kerala. She said she found Zulfeiker was missing as the train left Vijayawada. Unable to find him, the family alerted the railway authorities and lodged a complaint. Assured by officials that they will “find the boy,” they proceeded to Delhi.
On April 4, the family got the information that he was admitted to Khammam government hospital. Ms Jasmine said her son was lying alone in a corner at the hospital, in an unconscious state and seemingly without treatment. The family took him to Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad. Ms Jasmine said her son is battling for life and they are finding it difficult to meet expenses. “The railway authorities didn’t take the case seriously,” she said.
