Kiran looks to babu for image makeover
Apparently stung by the adverse coverage in both the national and regional media, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has decided to go in for an image makeover, bringing in Venudhar Reddy, an Indian Information Services official, to oversee the government publicity activities.
Mr Venudhar Reddy had earlier served as a Special Officer in the Information Wing of AP Bhavan, New Delhi during the rule of late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and is currently working in the Registrar of New-spapers for India in Delhi. According to sources, he has been asked by the CM to join as additional commissioner, information, in the public relations depar-tment on deputation and take charge of publicity affairs of the government.
Sources said a file relating to his appointment has been sent to information minister D. K. Aruna for approval. The present press secretary to the CM A. Satya Rao will be retiring in June and is expected to be replaced by Mr Venudhar Reddy. Meanwhile, efforts to get defence PIO Nagaraju appointed as Special Officer on deputation at AP Bhavan, have failed, following the rejection of the plea by the defence secretary. A formal request was made, seeking Mr Nagar-aju’s services on deputation to oversee the media affairs in Delhi, particularly the coverage of the CM’s activities in the national capital. A source said that a search is on to pick a suitable person for the post.
