Kiran to open Octopus HQ in Begumpet today
The elite anti-terror commando force Octopus (Organisation For Counter Terrorist Operations) headquarters will be inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday at Begumpet.
Octopus, the commando outfit formed by the AP government, is being built on the lines of National Security Guard (NSG) to respond to terror strikes. Octopus contains Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) teams that are trained on the lines of the elite NSG. The SWAT teams are equipped with imported weaponry to take part in counter-terror actions and hostage situations. The teams will be deployed in the important cities in the state.
Andhra Pradesh director-general of police V. Dinesh Reddy on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the proposed building complex of Octopus. Meanwhile the training centre at Boodhan Pochampalli in city outskirts is yet become functional. Around `Rs 36 crore was allotted for the project. DGP Dinesh Reddy had laid the foundation stone for the training centre in January last.
