Kiran plans big event for Sonia Gandhi

Buoyed by the tremendous response from all quarters on the SC, ST Sub-Plan Bill, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy plans to organise a mammoth public meeting to convert his government’s achievement into electoral gains.

Kiran Kumar Reddy is believed to favour either Vijayawada or Rajahmundry for the massive public meeting, given the presence of SCs and STs in the areas.

Besides, it would be easy to mobilise huge crowds from these areas and from neighbouring Telangana districts and from the nearby tribal tracks.

He has already decided to invite UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the public meeting and has sent a formal proposal to her.

The Chief Minister has tentatively fixed the meeting for any day between December 15 and 20.
However, the date would be finalised once he gets the nod from Mrs Gandhi.

Meanwhile, the Congress president has convened a three-day special session of the AICC in Delhi, from December 18 to 20, to deliberate political issues.

“We will finalise the public meeting once we get the confirmation from 10, Janapath,” said a source close to the Chief Minister.

Sources said though Hyderabad would be convenient for organising such a crowd for the mega meet, it was negated due to political situation in Telangana region on account of the Centre’s indecisiveness over the separate statehood demand, and also due to the fact that the Coastal districts are populated with more SCs than any other region.
