Kotla, Naik too in race for berths
While much political development is expected in New Delhi over the crucial weekend, at least three representatives from the state are expected to join the Manmohan Singh Cabinet in the reshuffle likely to take place on Sunday.
While it is almost a foregone conclusion that act-or-turned-politician K. Chiranjeevi would find a place in Dr Singh’s Cabinet, with the Rajya MP set to leave for Delhi on Saturday afternoon with his wife and mother, speculations are still rife on possible inclusion of others.
Topping that list are three-time Kurnool MP Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy, son of former chief minister late K. Vijay Bhasakar Reddy, and first-time MP from Mahabub-abad Balaram Naik.
Several other names doi-ng the rounds in political circles for possible inclusion include Anjan Kumar Yadav, Sarve Satyanarayana and Nandi Yellaiah, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
Both Mr Surya Prakash Reddy and Mr Naik confirmed to the media that the Union Cabinet Secret-ary has invited them to Delhi and asked them to be available on Sunday, indicating their inclusion in the Cabinet post-reshuffle.
In fact, Mr Naik has even thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi for including his name in the Union Cabinet.
It is learnt that Mr Surya Prakash Reddy’s name might have been suggested by President Pranab Mukherjee. By including him, the Congress wants to send out a message that it has not ignored the family of an 'honest politician' like Vijay Bhaskar Reddy.
