Lakdikapul to get twin bridge in three months
The proposed parallel road at Lakdikapul, Hyderabad, is to get a complete shape within three months, with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation getting a favourable court order regarding the land which is necessary for the construction of an approach road.
The construction of a parallel bridge at Lakdikapul to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic on the ever-busy stretch started in July 2011, and it was expected to be completed the same year by October. The entire project has been planned on a sharing basis between the South Central Railway (SCR) which is expected to construct the road over bridge (ROB), and the GHMC that has to construct the approach roads on either side of the bridge.
While the SCR has completed ROB with the GHMC funding totalling Rs 9 crore in April this year, the works by the GHMC have got delayed, as it could not acquire the needed land towards Masab Tank side. An area of 806 square yards had got in legal tangles, as the private parties went to court, which put a stay on the works. However, after fighting the case in the court, the GHMC could get the stay on acquiring the land vacated a few days ago. It got the needed land for its possession.
Officials said with the GHMC compensating the owner with an amount of nearly Rs 4 crore, the court had vacated the stay on acquiring the land. The GHMC has started further works on clearing the land at the bridge. The deputy collector in charge of land acquisition said: “The land acquisition got in legal tangle as the owner of the 806 square yards of land demanded compensation for 1009 square yards of land instead of 806 sq. yards which he was actually in possession. “The extra piece of land which he was claiming, i.e.157 square yards, was already acquired by the government in 1985. However, court ruled in favour of us and we started clearing the land by demolishing the structure.”
Mr Dhan Singh, GHMC chief engineer, explained that with the GHMC getting the required land for the construction of the approach road, the civic body was hopeful that it could complete the entire works within three months of time.
