Leaders link Jagan to Andhra Pradesh bifurcation
Congress leaders led by Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal and minister for minor irrigation T.G. Venkatesh have hit upon a new strategy to counter the YSR Congress in the coming Assembly bypolls. They are planning to tell the people that a vote for Jaganmohan Reddy would be a vote for the division of the state.
In case the Congress loses the bypolls the High Command will be forced to rework strategies in order to save the party and will be compelled to announce bifurcation of the state.
Mr Rajagopal and other like-minded Congress leaders have shared their ‘new idea’ with both the Chief Minister and the PCC chief a few days ago. However, the state leadership has not officially granted permission for the campaign and has asked the leaders to start the campaign along those lines and watch for the people’s reaction.
The team led by Mr Rajagopal has identified some key issues that may go against the Congress in the bypolls. They are price rise, power tariff hike, power cuts, and drinking water shortage. Similarly the team also came to an unanimous opinion that any criticism of the late YSR and talking ill against him will not fetch votes for the party.
“We have to face the electorate with a positive approach, like what the government has been doing to bring about development. Bifurcation of the state is an emotional issue and if we tell the voters that if they vote for Jaganmohan Reddy it will lead to the bifurcation of the state, that would be effective,” said a leader.
According to them, for all practical purposes the YSR Congress is confined to the Seemandhra region only till Jaganohan Reddy undertakes a yatra in the Telangana region. They said that it is well-known that Jaganmohan Reddy is emerging stronger in the Seemandhra region like the Telangana Rashtra Samiti in Telangana and many leaders believe that they both have a tacit understanding to achieve their goals.
“Unless the Congress gets some seats in the bypolls it is very difficult for the state leadership to prevent crossovers after the elections. The best bet would be to campaign in such a way that the YSR Congress is forced into defence, so that we can stress the point that a vote for Jaganmohan Reddy would be a vote for the division of the state,” said a leader.
“In the Seemandhra region, almost all families have links with Hyderabad and they cannot compromise on it. If we highlight this in the campaign we expect that it will make the voters think twice before casting their vote for Jaganmohan Reddy and our purpose would be served,” the Congress leader said.
