Lokesh to take charge
Nara Lokesh, son of Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, is all set to take up more responsibilities in the party once his father starts his mega padayatra from October 2. “We are already strong but the TD will be strengthened further after Mr Naidu’s padayatra. He will mix with the people to identify their problems and come out stronger,” Mr Lokesh said at Naravapalli village, the TD chief’s native place.
In fact, Mr Naidu has carved out a space for his son as he leaves for the 2000-km, 117-day padayatra. Sources in the TD said Mr Lokesh will monitor the padayatra with a core team of senior party leaders from the NTR Trust Bhavan and take care of publicity etc. “After father goes to field, all of us will work together and strengthen the party. We have to attend to people’s problems from the grassroots-level and try to help them," Mr Lokesh said.
“The party will return to power in 2014. There is no doubt about it. TD alone has the guts to take on the Congress. Other parties will go the PR way. TD is the only party which protects the interests of the people,” he said. Mr Lokesh, however, remained elusive when asked whether he would contest in the 2014 polls. “I am a party worker and I will remain one,” he said. About threats by some party leaders to quit on the Telangana statehood issue etc., he said, “Those who wanted to quit have quit. The TD is not scared of threats. Those committed to the party and the people will remain with us.”
