Low pressure in Bay brings rains
The Metereological department predicts an all wet 48 hours for northern regions of Andhra Pradesh, especially in the Telangana region. An official of the Indian Meteorological Depart-ment said that Hydera-bad, which received 11.5 cm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, is likely to receive an equal amount of rain in the next 24 hours. Golconda recorded almost 16.3 cm of rainfall while Begumpet received about 11 cm of rain.
A part of the boundary wall of the airport collapsed resulting in damage to some vehicles. Experts attributed the monsoon fury to a trough of low pressure in the north-west part of the Bay of Bengal and predicted heavy rains to lash Telangana, coastal Andhra and parts of Rayalaseema in the coming two days as well. Cumulative rainfall over coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema from June 1 to July 21 is reported to be more than the normal while Telangana is fast catching up.
Hyderabad district on Saturday recorded the highest rainfall in the state followed by Ranga Reddy with 84.1 mm. Rainfall recorded in other parts of the state were: Srikakulam 53.3 mm, Vizianagaram 39.2 mm, Medak 32 mm, Nalgonda 25.6 mm, Khammam 22.9 mm, Krishna 21.9 mm. Visakhapatnam 20.8 mm, East Godavari, Warangal 19 mm each, Mahbub-nagar 17 mm, Nizamabad 16.5 mm, Kurnool 12 mm, West Godavari 11.7 mm, Adilabad 8.1 mm, Guntur 7.3 mm, Nellore 2.8 mm, Kadapa 1.9 mm, Praka-sam 1.5 mm and Chittoor 0.7 mm. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakha-patnam, East Godavari and West Godavari of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the next 48 hours, IMD said. Hyderabad city and its neighbourhood will have overcast skies with spells of rains, at times heavy in parts of the city, said G. Sudhakar Rao, director in-charge, IMD.
