LPG refill only against original gas cylinders
Single domestic LPG connection holders possessing unauthorised extra cylinders better watch out.
To weed out unauthorised cylinders, oil marketing companies (OMCs) will deliver refills only if consumers hand over the empty original cylinder.
The delivery boys will note down the serial number of the cylinder while delivering it to consumers and deliver the refill only if the consumer hands over the empty cylinder with the same serial number.
Large numbers of single gas connection holders in the city illegally keep a second cylinder obtained from consumers who move to other places for various reasons.
Having two cylinders is convenient as it takes one to two weeks to get a refill. Getting a second legal cylinder is sometimes a cumbersome process, hence this short-cut method.
The OMCs have directed the gas agencies to make it mandatory for delivery boys to write the serial number of the full cylinder in the Domestic Gas Consumer Card, a booklet supplied to all consumers, while delivering the cylinders.
They will take the signature of the consumer on the booklet confirming that they have received a cylinder with the serial number written in the booklet.
When these consumers order a refill, they have to hand over the original cylinder with same serial number to the delivery boys, else refill will be refused.
According to gas agencies, there are lakhs of such unauthorised cylinders held by single gas connection holders in the city alone.
