Man’s intestine cut in botched tummy tuck
The Punjagutta police on Saturday booked a case for negligence against Aakruthi Cosmetic Surgery Centre on allegations that a tummy tuck, a routine liposuction procedure, had led to a serious infection after the patient’s intestine was cut during surgery. The patient has been shifted to Kims hospital and his condition is said to be critical.
Mr Narendra, 32, a resident KPHB Colony and a native of Guntur had undergone the operation for removing excess fat in his body. He is a PhD student of JNTU. Punjagutta police inspector N. Tirupathi Rao said, “Nagendar’s father Koteswara Rao lodged a complaint that doctors performing the surgery, had acted negligently leading to infection.”
Victim asked for it despite warning: doc
Dr Nagaraju of the Aakruthi Surgery Centre, situated at Ameerpet, clarified on allegations of a goof-up in surgery. “Five months back we had conducted liposuction on him and removed excess fat. He was normal then. But he came back to us several times and insisted on removing the rema-ining fat. We explained the complications and consequences and took a special letter of consent from him and did the surgery free of cost five days back. Textbook complications occurred. We identified the complications and shifted him to the nearby hospital. We are following up with the treatment and taking care of him.”
When asked about his condition, the doctor said, “There is a risk as well as a chance of recovery for him.” He added, “Even his mother asked us to carry on. “During the second liposuction, there was less fat and thus there was an injury to his intestine.” DCP west zone Steph-en Ravindra said, “We have to probe and find out whether the vein or the intestine was cut.
