Mantris discuss future
Served notices by the Supreme Court in connection with a PIL filed by advocate P. Sudhakara Reddy, four senior ministers have decided to rope in their Cabinet colleagues to exert pressure on Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to extend political and legal support to them. In a meeting on Tuesday, ministers J. Geetha Reddy, Kanna Lakshminarayana, P. Lakshmaiah and Sabita Indra Reddy discussed the situation in the wake of the summons issued by the CBI court to R&B minister D. Prasada Rao. Their legal advisor Jogi Naidu was also present.
Mr Rao was summoned in connection with the chargesheet in the Jagan illegal investments case. Earlier, soon after Mr Rao submitted his resignation, 22 ministers had met the CM and requested him to provide help to their colleagues. Six ministers were served notices by the SC on the PIL filed by the Nellore advocate, who sought to know details of the CBI action against them and eight IAS officers responsible for issuing GOs pertaining to the case.
Even as the CM’s decision to extend legal help was awaited, the CBI arrested former minister M. Venkata Ramana. The CBI later named Mr Rao as accused and the court issued summons, asking him to appear before it by September 25. These two developments created a flutter among the other four ministers, who are now worried about possible CBI moves.
