Maoist Chandranna surrenders to cops
Top Maoist leader Bandarapu Mallaiah alias Chandranna alias Sekhar and his wife Gadegoni Balavva alias Vijaya, three other dalam members and 10 militia members surrendered before the Kothagudem police on Monday.
SP P. Hari Kumar and OSD T. Srinivasa Rao said that Chandranna and Vijaya are wife and husband. Chandranna was serving as the Gadchiroli district committee secretary and his wife was a member of the committee in Maharastra state. Both belong to Manthani in Karimnagar district.
Of the other three Vagaboina Ramana alias Rajitha, Goggela Ramesh alias Ravi, were members of Puspakka dalam and Pusam Raju alias was a member of the Maoist Sabari area committee.
Along with the five Maoists another 10 militia members also surrendered. The militia members were involved in uprooting trees on the main road on November 15 and 16 during the Maoist bandh in Bhadrachalam and Venkatapuram mandals, Bhadrachalam ASP, Dr Gajarao Bhupal said.
Bandarapu Mallaiah alias Chandranna joined the extremists in 1981. Later he became area committee secretary and the military wing in-charge in Karimnagar district. He was also in the Maoist platoon for Khammam, Warangal and Karimnagar districts. He participated in the attacks on police stations at Manthani and Asrepalli in Maharastra. He was also involved in an ambush in 1991 in which 5 BSF personnel were killed and in the 2009 ambush in Maharastra in which 15 policemen were killed.
The government's rehabilitation package for the Maoists will be implemented, the Kothagudem ASP, Mr Bhaskar Bhushan said.
