Med seats: TRS approaches Guv
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti on Saturday sought Governor E.S.L, Narasimhan’s immediate intervention on the injustice done to Telangana with regard to setting up medical colleges, increase in medical seats and implementation of Arogyasri scheme.
TRS Deputy Floor leader T. Harish Rao, who led an 11-member delegation, submitted a detailed memorandum to the Governor and urged him to order an inquiry and take stringent action against the “guilty.” “There is deliberate discrimination against Telangana in terms of medical education. Telangana is being deprived of medical seats in prestigious colleges such as Gandhi, Osmania and Kakatiya medical colleges,” he said.
The MCI had sanctioned an increase of 650 seats in the state, including 150 in government colleges. “It is unfortunate that not even a single seat went to colleges in Telangana,” the party told Mr Narasimhan. The TRS urged the Governor to increase medical seats in Telangana, conduct regional counseling for the stream in Hyderabad, expedite establishment of a government medical college in Nizamabad and regulate private colleges in collecting capitation fee.
TRS, BJP missing from TJAC meet on T
After a brief lull, the Telangana Joint Action Committee has decided to intensify the agitation for separate Telangana. “The agitation for separate Telangana will be intensified in a phased manner. We will have series of meetings, campaigns and agitations from July 10 onwards in all Telangana districts, including Hyderabad bastis. We have called for Telangana march ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ on September 30,” TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram said after the meeting. Prof Kodandaram also strongly opposed ‘Rayala-Telangana’ proposed by some Seemandhra leaders and stated there was “no place for the Congress in Telangana” since it failed to keep its promise to carve out separate state. The committee adopted 10 resolutions at the meeting. Interestingly, the TJAC did not invite its key political allies — the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the Bharatiya Janata Party — for the crucial meeting. However, committee member Vital said they had consulted both the TRS and the BJP before adopting the resolutions.
