Medium no bar for Principal, teachers post
The AP High Court on Wednesday upheld the decision of the state government in imposing the condition that the candidates who had completed three levels of studying in English medium were eligible for the post of principal, and those with two levels, for the posts of post-graduate teachers (PGTs) and trained graduate teachers (TGT) in Model schools. The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan issued a notification to fill up 7,100 posts, including 355 principals, 4,615 PGTs and 2,130 TGTs, for the 355 Model schools. The written test was scheduled to be held on May 10.
Several aspirants for the posts, hailing from Telugu medium background, challenged the 'English medium’ condition before the High Court and a single judge granted an interim direction to receive applications from all the eligible candidates irrespective of their medium of study. Aggrieved by this, the state government preferred an appeal before the Division Bench and the Bench set aside the single judge's order. The Bench asked the registry to place all the writs before another single judge would was asked to dispose of the writs before May 10. After hearing the arguments from both sides, Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar dismissed all the petitions of the Telugu medium candidates, allowing them to compete for the posts.
No stay on acb probe into liquor scam
Justice G. Chandraiah, vacation judge of the AP High Court, on Wednesday refused to stay the Anti-Corruption Bureau's probe into the liquor syndicate scam. Angadi Satyanarayana and 44 others, owners of wine shops, had approached the vacation judge, challenging the arrest of wine shop owners with white ration cards. A Division Bench, headed by Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur, told the ACB to look into the financial credentials of the wine shop owners with white ration cards.
The court suspected that they were benamis of various liquor syndicates. The petitioners contended that the ACB authorities had no right to arrest them solely on the basis of their possession of a white ration card. They urged the court to direct the ACB not to arrest them or stall the probe. The judge, who was not inclined to stay the investigation, told the ACB to file a counter affidavit by next Wednesday and asked the registry to post the case before the vacation Bench on the day.
