Ministers rush to undo own orders
After the state government cancelled the GO pertaining to Brahmani Steels, which came as a big relief for minister J. Geeta Reddy, five other ministers connected to some of the 26 controversial GOs have asked Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to cancel them too.
The state government had recently issued orders scrapping GO No. 477 pertaining to Brahmani Indus-tries Limited of former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. The GO was one of the controversial ones listed by advocate P. Sudhakar Reddy in his Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court.
The then mines minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, who handled the irrigation portfolio, and the then revenue minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, have asked the state to cancel the GOs they issued, if any irregularities were found in them.
The ministers are in a quandary as the CBI in its affidavit in the SC has stated that it has to probe the ministers’ roles in clearing some of the GOs. Sources said that a minister had even visited New Delhi to lobby for help from key members of the Congress. The CM was, however, confident that no more arr-ests would take place and told them that these decisions were taken in Delhi.
BACKTRACKING ON GOs SIGNED
P. Sabita Indra Reddy: Limestone leases to Penna Cements, Saras-wati Power, Raghuram Cements change of name, land surrender
Ponnala Lakshmaiah: GO on industrial water supply from Krishna river to Penna Cements
Dharmana Prasada Rao: Land ceiling exemption for Raghuram Cements; alienation of land to Penna Cements in 3 districts
