Missile launch site to be set up at machilipatnam

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will be establishing a long-range missile launch and testing site at Machilipatnam in coastal AP, said DRDO DG and scientific adviser to defence minister V.K. Saraswat on Saturday.

He added that a Directed Energy Weapon System Centre is also scheduled to come up in Hyderabad, close to Research Centre Imarat.

Dr Saraswat also pointed out that objections raised by the petroleum ministry with the defence ministry about the proposed test range in Machilipatnam had been sorted out.

The petroleum ministry objected to the site as it was in the KG Basin where many companies are drilling for oil.
