Missing picture upsets KVP, says YSR wanted Rahul as PM
Congress MP K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao on Tuesday turned emotional over the absence of the portrait of former CM Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy at the Youth Congress state committee swearing-in ceremony.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was the chief guest. Mr Rao’s outburst took the party leaders by surprise. There were slogans praising the late CM, with some activists shouting “YSR Zindabad”.
Gandhi Bhavan, state Congress headquarters, was spruced up for the event with portraits of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana and party affairs in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad. The banners and hoardings were conspicuous by the absence of YSR’s photographs.
Mr Rao said it was YSR’s dream to see Mr Rahul Gandhi as the PM. He called upon the Youth Congress workers to take oath that they will work to fulfill the ideals of late YSR. He wondered how the late CM’s photographs were missing at such an important event. “The absence of YSR's photos should make every party worker sad,” he said in an emotionally charged voice, leaving the CM looking surprised. Stating that Ch. Vamsic-hand Reddy had majority in the Youth Congress elections, he said the results were not immediately ann-ounced due to allegations against him.
