‘Missing’ realtor found murdered

A day after a charred body of a woman was found at Choutuppal, on the city’s outskirts, the victim’s relatives identified her as K. Prameela, a real estate agent. Based on information received from her relatives and after initial examination of her phone call record, the police suspect Prameela, 53, was killed over a land-related dispute. She lived in Sri Sai Nagar, under Uppal police’s jurisdiction.

According to the police, Prameela went missing on Saturday. “We received a complaint on Saturday night, based on which we registered a case. Prameela ran chits and also made real estate deals,” inspector Laxmikanth Reddy of Uppal police said on Monday. “Her brother-in-law Venkateswarlu lodged the complaint.” The police said the victim’s husband, K. Nageswara Rao, who was a chartered accountant and auditor, had died of a cardiac arrest earlier. On Saturday, Prameela reportedly left home at noon, and made the last call home at 2.10 pm, telling family members that she would return late.

According to call details, the last call from her cellphone was made from an area under Choutuppal tower’s range. Nalgonda district superintendent of police Navin Gulati said, “The body was badly burnt, but we are reasonably sure it was Prameela. But DNA fingerprinting is required to establish the identity beyond doubt, as also to file a chargesheet in the case. It takes seven to eight months to get the DNA fingerprint report, but the investigation will continue irrespective of the DNA report.”

Mr Gulati said Choutuppal and Uppal police are jointly probing the case. Stating that the police is studying her mobile phone call data and working on other leads, he said, “The prime motive appears to be a realty dispute.” Relatives, meanwhile, said they identified the body with help of her sari, sandal and nose ring. Prameela’s two daughters are married.
