Naidu will send letter before padayatra: TD

Telugu Desam president, N. Chandrababu Naidu is all set to send a letter to the Centre supporting the Telangana issue before setting off on his marathon padayatra from October 2. Mr Naidu has had preliminary discussions with some Seemandhra leaders on the proposed letter, but is currently focussed more on the padayatra programme.

“Today and tomorrow, our party leader will focus mainly on the padayatra. From Monday, he will have full-fledged meetings with Seemandhra leaders on the letter supporting Telangana,” said T-TD Forum convener E. Dayakar Rao.

Mr Rao added, “He is very clear on Telangana. The TD is committed to Telangana and this will be proved through the letter. We have given a letter in the past and we will stand by it.” Asked if Mr Naidu is copying YSR’s padayatra, he quipped, “Our yatra is against corruption.”

Though Mr Naidu is certain to undertake the padayatra, some party leaders have reportedly suggested that he undertake a “cycle yatra” instead, since it would be unique and would not be labelled as copying YSR. “Mr Naidu is considering this option, but pedalling nearly 2,000 km could be difficult for him,” a senior party leader said.
