Narasimhan likely to continue as governor

Given the present political situation of Andhra Pradesh, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan is likely to stay on for now since he is well-versed with developments in the state, sources in the Union home ministry said on Monday. Mr Narasimhan, who completed his five-year term on January 25, had a series of meetings with the Congress brass in New Delhi over the last two days. He met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, home minister P. Chidambaram and defence minister A.K. Antony and and is said to have briefed them on the current political situation in Andhra Pradesh.

On Monday, he declined to share with the media the details of his meetings with Mrs Gandhi and Mr Chidambaram. Responding to a question on his continuation as the Governor, after Mr Chidambaram recently told the media about possible changes in the Governor’s posts in some states, Mr Narasimhan said, “Only the home minister can provide you with an answer.” Mr Narasimhan also dismissed reports that he went to Delhi to submit special reports on the state’s political situation, including a report on Telangana. “I did not submit any report to anyone,” he said.
