New statues cost state Rs 47.58 lakh
The statues that were damaged by pro-Telangana agitators during the Million March organised by the Telangana Joint Action Committee on March 10, 2011 were those of Sir Arthur Cotton, Bellary Raghava, Krishnadevaraya, Tallapaka Annamacharya, Kandukuri Veeresalingam Panthulu, Gurajada Appa Rao, Yerrapragada, Raghupati Venkatratnam Naidu, Siddhendrayogi, Brahmanaidu, Mutnuri Krishna Rao and Tripuraneni Ramaswamy Chaudhari. The agitators had also desecrated statues of C.R. Reddy, Vemana, Shalivah-ana, Nannaya Bhattaraka, Kshetrayya, Sri Sri and Gurram Jashua.
The statue of Adilabad tribal leader Komaram Bheem is ready for installation as per the wishes of Telangana organisations who had demanded his statue along with other Telangana leaders. Telangana Rashtra Samiti deputy Floor leader T. Harish Rao had warned the government against installing statues of Seemandhra leaders while ignoring those from Telangana. He had accused the government of bias in installing statues of luminaries from Telangana region including the founder of Tank Bund. The department of culture, which is the nodal agency for procuring and reinstalling the damaged statues, had commissioned sculptor P. Aruna Prasad Vudayar of Bheemavaram in West Godavari district for the statues at a cost of Rs 47.58 lakh.
