Nizam diamond from temple stolen

The famous Mahankali temple at Lal Darwaza was robbed early on Wednesday morning and the thieves stole goods worth several lakhs of rupees, including a diamond gifted by the Nizam.

Security was tightened as the area was tense during the day with devotees and local leaders protesting the lack of police patrolling which they said, had encouraged the thieves.

The temple committee also alleged the culprits had damaged the idol to create communal tension in the area.

A clues team and fingerprint experts visited the spot and the Chatrinaka police booked a case.

The theft was discovered in the morning when a temple priest found that the main lock had been broken and gold and silver ornaments of the idol were missing. He immediately informed the police and locals who rushed to the spot.
